Galway is a city in County Galway, Ireland, lying on the River Corrib between Lough Corrib and Galway Bay. It is the most populous settlement in the province of Connacht and the fourth most populous city in the Republic of Ireland, with a population of 85,910 at the 2022 census. Known as the 'City of the Tribes', Galway grew around a fortification built in 1124 and developed into a trading port controlled by merchant families.
